Throughout the year’s experts have been warning us about identity crisis. Shouting and screaming, beware of identity crisis. To always be yourself. Watch out for the imposter syndrome, and the list goes on and on. As much information that is available surrounding identity crisis, few people really know what it means to suffer from identity crisis. let’s excavate the meaning of identity crisis. Identity crisis is defined as a period of uncertainty and confusion, in which a person’s sense of identity becomes insecure, typically due to a change in their expected aims or role in society. There are many different factors that can contributed to the development of identity crisis.
For example:
Environmental influences, Social influences, economical influences, rejection, and negative self-talk.
Environmental Influences
People are often influence by their environment. Our environments help us form habits and believe systems, that will shape our identities. Such as religion, culture, financial status, and socioeconomic influences. Our environment often shapes our minds and set the course of our lives. People often adapt behaviors that they see around them. They become many different people throughout their lifetime. A Product of their environment.
Rejection
Rejection has a big role to play in identity crisis. When someone goes through years of rejection, they often see themselves in a negative way, and often don’t know who they are. They lack the ability the dream, grow in their career, launch a business, go back to school etc. they are often restricted by their own emotion. Fear continue to rule their lives. The fear that people will reject their vision. Often, they will spend a lot of time emulating people around them, they can achieve success without truly enjoying their success, because they built someone else’s vision and living someone else’s dream.
Why were you created?
Genesis 1:26-28
26: And God said, let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air and over the cattle and over the earth. And over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27: So, God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him male and female, created he them.
You are sculpted in the image of God. When God created you, he made you look like him. He gave you his Anatomy and Physiology. God made you to rule. He gave you authority to rule over everything that he created. He made you a reflection of himself. He is the alpha and omega. The beginning and the end. The first and the last. He is the all-knowing and the all-seeing God. We are the apple of his eyes.
We function as one body. We work in the physical realm to carry out the task of the living God. We have the power to create. We are a creative being. To be creative, means to turn something into nothing. We do not have to copy anyone else personality. No two people fingerprint, or handwriting is the same. That means you are an original, no one can be you, like you can be yourself. No one can do you, like you can do you.
28: And blessed them, and God said unto them, be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
You must be intentional about being yourself. You must wake up every day with the intention to see what you can do. Everyone is passionate about something. It’s that one thing that you think about repeatedly. When you start doing it your way, doing what makes you happy, you will begin to evolve into your true self. To truly be fulfilled and happy.
